A knife attack left three people dead this Friday, December 19 in the center of Taipei, Taiwan, and several injured, according to the report. Reutersstating that the suspect died during the police chase.

Taiwanese Prime Minister Cho Jung-tai says the man threw smoke grenades at Taipei’s main train station and then went to a nearby subway station. Along the way, he attacked several people, said the Chief Executive.

“Apparently, he deliberately threw smoke grenades and wielded a long knife to carry out indiscriminate attacks on the public,” Cho Jung-tai was quoted as saying by the news agency. He would also have Molotov cocktails with him.

The official also indicated that the man wore a mask and what appeared to be a bulletproof vest during the attack and that he ended up dying after falling from a building while fleeing from authorities. THE Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-antold journalists that the individual committed suicide. He also mentioned that one of the victims died while trying to prevent the attack.

The motivations for this attack are currently unknown. The suspect was identified as having a criminal record and was the subject of arrest warrants. “We will investigate his history and relationships to understand his motives and determine whether there are other related factors,” said the prime minister.
