Jamie Dimon said AI could one day help us work less, but not before it cuts jobs, adding that AI could improve society, comparing it to past technological leaps that lifted productivity and living standards.
Jamie Dimon repeats his warning on AI
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon reiterated about the effect of artificial intelligence on the economy. He acknowledged businesses have been cautious about hiring lately but said it’s not related to AI and doubted that the technology will dramatically reduce jobs in the next year.

“For the most part, AI is going to do great stuff for mankind, like tractors did, like fertilizers did, like vaccines did,” he said. “You know, maybe one day we’ll be working less hard but having wonderful lives.”
While AI will not “dramatically reduce” jobs in the next year, “it will eliminate jobs,” Dimon said. “It doesn’t mean people won’t have other jobs,” he said, adding that workers should lean into critical thinking, communication, and emotional intelligence.
Warning of ‘real danger’, Jamie Dimon said that AI adoption could outpace society’s ability to train workers. “If it does happen too fast for society, which is possible, we can’t assimilate all those people that quickly,” Dimon said.
Jamie Dimon emphasised that AI will eventually replace some jobs and people must prepare for this shift. However, Notably, this is not the first time Dimon has warned about AI eliminating jobs. In November 2025, Dimon said AI could help people in developed countries move toward a much shorter workweek of around three-and-a-half days over the next 20 to 40 years.”My guess is the developed world will be working three and a half days a week in 20, 30, 40 years,” Dimon said in November at the America Business Forum in Miami. “You’re going to have agents that do research for you every time you wake up in the morning,” he added.

Jamie Dimon says AI must be regulated
Dimon suggested the public sector and private sector have roles to play if AI sweeps through the economy so quickly that workers can’t adapt to new roles in time. “We—government and we the companies, society—should look at how do we phase it in a way that we don’t damage a lot of people,” he explained. “We should have done a little bit more on trade assistance years ago when you had a town that got damaged by the closure of a plant. And that you can do: You can retrain people, relocate people, income assistance, early retirement.”
In November, Dimon predicted AI will help the developed world transition to a shorter workweek of just three and a half days sometime in the next 20 to 40 years. “It will eliminate jobs. People should stop sticking their heads in the sand,” he warned.
