The Israeli army announced on Sunday night the dismissal of several generals who held key positions from the Army on October 7, 2023, for failing to prevent the attack by the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas.
Major General Aharon Haliva, then head of military intelligence, Major General Oded Basyuk, chief of operations, and Major General Yaron Finkelman, who had recently assumed command of Israel’s Southern Military District, will be removed from the reserves and will no longer be part of the army, according to an army statement.
General Haliva was the first military officer to resign, in 2024, alleging his responsibility for the tragedy of October 7th.
General Finkelman also resigned, citing the same reasons.
As for General Basyuk, he retired after the 12-day war initiated by Israel against Iran.
The war in the Gaza Strip began on October 7, 2023, when the Islamist group Hamas attacked Israeli territory, causing the deaths of more than 1,200 people and around 250 hostages
Since the beginning of the Israeli military offensive, launched after the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, 69,733 Gazans have died, including more than 20,000 children, due to Israeli fire, and 170,863 have been injured, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
