The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, heard this Monday, December 1st, words of displeasure at the end of the ceremony that marked the Restoration of Independence and which took place in Praça dos Restauradores, in Lisbon.
At the end, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa went to one of the sides of Praça dos Restauradores to greet people who attended the ceremony, including members of an association friends of Olivença. Alongside these were members of the “Portugueses Primeiro” association, an extreme right-wing group, according to RTP.
They took advantage of the proximity of the head of state to say some words of displeasure against Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
“I’m very happy that you’re finishing your consulate and leaving the country”, said one of them, with another confronting him with the case of alleged favoritism of Portuguese-Brazilian twin children in the National Health Service (SNS).
The incident, at the end of the December 1st celebrations, the last one presided over by Marcelo, lasted brief moments before the President of the Republic got into the car.
