The numbers include people living on the street, in an emergency shelter or in temporary accommodation. Henrique Joaquim, national coordinator for the Strategy for the Integration of Homeless People says that “the housing crisis is causing great pressure, both on people’s lives and on the search we make to increase housing responses. housing first and shared housing”.
The numbers show that among the total number of people experiencing homelessness in 2024, 4619 were women, 3387 were homeless and 1232 were homeless. The profile of people living on the street is male, Portuguese, with little education, between 44 and 65 years of age, beneficiary of Social Insertion Income. When looking only at the female universe, the profile is the same, with one exception: they are very young, up to 18 years of age, says the Public.
