The Portuguese rail freight transport company Medway will begin its operation in France next Sunday, the 14th, with the transport of raw materials between Caffiers and Dunkirk, it said this Friday, the 12th, in a statement.
According to the railway freight carrier, entry into the French market is a “historic moment” that allows direct connections to nine countries – Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Austria – and reinforces “the group’s position in the European railway market”.
Medway also states that its presence in the French port of Dunkirk also opens up opportunities for intermodal traffic and bulk cargo.
Medway (formerly CP Carga) has been owned since 2016 by MSC Rail, a subsidiary of the Swiss international giant Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), after the privatization process. It is the largest freight rail operator in Portugal, with around 90% market share.
