The move comes after the Central Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-IV) in Delhi-NCR to curb rising pollution levels.
GRAP-IV Implemented to Control Worsening Air Quality
Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar issued an advisory in compliance with CAQM’s orders under GRAP-IV. He said the revised office timings aim to reduce traffic congestion and limit vehicular emissions during peak hours.
“The decision has been taken to control the level of air pollution and reduce traffic and congestion,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
GRAP-IV is the strictest stage of the pollution control plan and is enforced when air quality reaches the ‘severe’ category.
New Office Timings for State Government Offices
As per the order, all public offices under the Haryana state government in Gurugram district will now function from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm. These timings will remain in effect for the duration of GRAP-IV.
The advisory clearly states that the revised schedule applies to all state government departments operating within the district.
Municipal Offices to Follow Revised Schedule
Offices under the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and Manesar will operate from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm during the GRAP-IV period.
In addition, municipal bodies under Sohna, Pataudi, Mandi municipal councils, and the Farrukhnagar municipal committee will also follow the same timings of 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, according to the official statement.
Work-from-Home Advisory for Private Institutions
To further reduce pollution levels, the Deputy Commissioner has also issued a work-from-home advisory for private institutions. Employers have been encouraged to allow staff to work remotely wherever possible to cut down on daily commuting and ease pressure on roads.
Officials said this step is expected to help improve air quality by lowering the number of vehicles on the streets.
Temporary Measure Until GRAP-IV Is Lifted
The administration clarified that the revised office timings are temporary and will remain effective only as long as GRAP-IV is enforced in the Delhi-NCR region.
Authorities have urged residents and organisations to cooperate with the measures, stressing that collective action is necessary to tackle the ongoing air pollution crisis.
