Gupta had earlier been granted a 36-hour transit remand by Delhi’s Saket Court on December 10 after his detention in the national capital. He was transported to Goa on Thursday morning and taken directly to the Anjuna Police Station for questioning.
Police have arrested co-accused on allegations of serious safety violations, unauthorised construction, and failure to comply with fire-safety norms, all of which investigators believe contributed to the scale of the tragedy.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police informed the Rohini Court that two other accused—brothers Gaurav and Saurav Luthra—left for Thailand where they were arrested on Saturday.
A Goa court has already issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against them.
Opposing their for interim protection, the State submitted that the duo was intentionally evading investigators. The brothers, through their counsel, argued they had travelled for work and were detained upon re-entering India. They sought only transit protection to approach the competent Goa court, fearing arrest.
The Rohini Court, however, questioned the maintainability of their applications, noting that they were not presently within its territorial jurisdiction.Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said an inquiry report into the tragedy will be completed within eight days. The state has begun releasing compensation to victims’ families and has accelerated safety audits at entertainment venues.
District authorities have also demolished part of the Romeo Lane restaurant in Vagator, owned by the Luthra brothers, who also own Birch by Romeo Lane.
