The services of La Poste, the French postal service, continue to be unable to deliver parcels, for the second day in a row, after a cyber attack that affected IT services.

The French Economy Minister, Roland Lescure, guaranteed that the attack is now “low intensity”, but specified that it continues to affect the company’s services, which is working to be able to deliver all its orders before Christmas.

“The priority is that all orders arrive before Christmas and, thanks to the work of the postmen, who are accelerating their work, they tell me they will make it,” said Roland Lescure on BFMTV television.

The minister added that La Poste’s logistics continue to work, so orders are arriving at the post office, but that the entire IT service is slow, with no communication with customers.

Furthermore, the post office is closed or has difficulty receiving all customers, so deliveries are experiencing many delays.

The cyber attack occurred during Christmas week, the busiest in terms of saturation at La Poste, which in the last two months of the year distributes around 180 million parcels.

At issue is a “denial of service” incident, which consists of saturating the company’s IT services, causing them to collapse with millions of requests.

According to Lescure, there was no data theft, which he considered to be good news.

According to several experts consulted by the local press, this type of cyber attack does not aim to obtain an economic benefit, but rather to affect the reputation of a company or a country.

The intensity of the attack suffered by La Poste, they add, requires a large economic investment.
