FIFA will distribute around 620 million euros (ME) to the 48 teams present at the 2026 World Cup, 50% more than in the previous edition, with each nation receiving at least nine million euros.
For the event that will be co-organized by the United States, Mexico and Canada, the FIFA Council, meeting in Doha, where the Intercontinental Cup final is being played today, decided that, from this pool, 558 million euros will be awarded in the form of prizes.
Thus, the world champion will pocket 42.5 million euros, the finalist 28, the third 25 and the fourth 23.
It was also decided that the teams classified from fifth to eighth place will receive 16 ME, those from ninth to 16th around 13, those that finish between 17th and 32nd position 9.5, and those that finish between 33rd and 48th, 7.5 million.
At the same time, each participant in the largest final phase in history will raise 1.3 million euros to finance preparation costs.
“The World Cup will also be a pioneer in terms of its financial contribution to the global football community”congratulated FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The FIFA Council also approved the creation of a fund for the recovery of infrastructure that will benefit, among others, Palestine, destroyed by Israel’s actions, in line with the objective of promoting the unifying values of football.
This measure follows the announcement made by Gianni Infantino at the Peace Summit, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in October, in which the FIFA president announced his intention to create a support mechanism for regions affected by conflicts.
This financial instrument, open to contributions from third parties and subject to strict supervision, will complement the actions already implemented within the scope of the “FIFA Forward” program and other initiatives of the organization.
