“Dozens of confidential files” stolen in a “serious” cyberattack against the French Ministry of the Interior

“We were subject to a malicious intrusion a few days ago” at the Ministry of the Interior, Núñez told Franceinfo radio station, and noted that a judicial investigation is being carried out to quickly find the author of the cyberattack, which affected his department’s email servers. “This is a serious act”he stressed.

The minister specified that among the files they accessed were the Criminal Records Treatment System (TAJ) and the Wanted Persons File (FPR). “Files that are important to us,” he said.

“Still We do not know the full extent of the leakwe do not know what was extracted: to date, several dozen files have been deleted from the system, we are talking about millions of data,” he said.

The intrusion came “from an individual or group of individuals who gained access through certain professional (email) accounts and were able to obtain access codes,” the minister continued, adding that the “scope” of this action is currently unknown.

The cyberattack was reported to the Paris Prosecutor’s Office, which opened an investigation for “suspicious activity directed at email servers.”
