Request focuses on concrete technical actions
After becoming aware of the incidents, Chega requested the CML’s public space management department — responsible for public lighting — for a set of specific checks aimed at identifying possible faults in the electrical network, especially in the parishes of Santo António and Parque das Nações. The note sent specifies: voltage measurements at the level of the floor and metallic elements surrounding the incident locations, analysis of the integrity of electrical circuits and protective devices, verification of earth connections (GT) and potential insulation failures”, consultation of maintenance records and prior inspections, assessment of environmental conditions that may have contributed to the occurrences.
These detailed and targeted actions aim, according to the party, to ensure a complete analysis of the conditions of the public electrical infrastructure and identify the origin of occurrences, preventing new dangerous situations from occurring again.
Animal Provider awaits results of analyzes
In a note sent to DN, the Chega Councilors’ Office adds that it contacted the Animal Ombudsman, “who stated that he was awaiting technical information on the causes of the unfortunate incident, for a later statement”.
Classifying the problem as urgent, Chega reinforces that it is essential to “eliminate any risk of electrocution, for people and animals”.
The Cabinet also states that “the priority […] is to defend Lisbon residents, guaranteeing the complete safety of public space”, also reaffirming “the absolute commitment to prevention, the rigorous maintenance of urban infrastructures and the well-being of all who share public space — people and companion animals”.
Four cases in 15 days
After the death of two dogs in Odivelas, one in Parque das Nações, and the existence of contact voltage on the ground being proven, a fourth animal survived an electrocution on the morning of Wednesday, November 26, in Príncipe Real, in Lisbon.
The dog was transported to the São Bento Veterinary Hospital to receive medical assistance. The owner of Chili, the surviving dog, launched a public petition demanding accountability and urgent prevention measures.
