PostNord Denmark will stop delivering letters at the end of this year. It is on December 30th that Denmark’s postal service, with 400 years of history, will undergo a profound change. The decision came following a 90% drop in the number of letters delivered.
The “increasing digitalization” of Danish society has forced a decision that involves 1,500 redundancies. Additionally, 1,500 typical red mailboxes will be removed.
The current company resulted from a merger, carried out in 2009, between the postal services of Denmark and Sweden, which now hold 40% and 60% respectively. Regarding the service serving Sweden, the operation will continue, according to official information.
“The number of letters in Denmark is falling rapidly”, so letter delivery will be stopped. The service will focus on the “Danes’ favorite parcel delivery man”, which means it is far from closing operations completely.
