TAP told Lusa this Tuesday, 2nd, that the company will operate on the day of the general strike, December 11th, based on the minimum services agreed with the unions.

“We do not act based on expectations, but based on the minimum services agreed between the company and the unions”, said only an official TAP source, when asked by Lusa about the news in Jornal de Negócios today.

Jornal de Negócios states that TAP has blocked the purchase of air travel for December 11, the day on which a general strike takes place.

The newspaper states that it is not possible to book flights to and from the country on the airline’s platform, which is trying to avoid further aggravating the complicated situation expected at national airports.

Last week, the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) approved joining the general strike. The Civil Aviation Pilots Union (SPAC) has scheduled an extraordinary general meeting for December 5th, so that associated pilots can decide whether they also join the strike.

The general strike on December 11th was marked by the CGTP and UGT trade unions against the Government’s draft reform of labor legislation and will be the first strike to bring together the two trade unions since June 2013, when Portugal was under intervention by the ‘troika’.
