The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed 11 districts of mainland Portugal under yellow warning due to cold weather between midnight on the 26th and 06:00 on the 27th. According to information from IPMA, the yellow warning starts at 00:00 on 26th December until 06:00 on 27th December.

The warning is for the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga. There will be the “persistence of low minimum temperature values”.

The exception is locations along the coast, in districts where this condition is applicable. The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) warned this week of precautions to be taken due to the cold, remembering that falling temperatures increase the risk of worsening chronic diseases and asking the population to protect themselves.

The DGS recommends that citizens avoid sudden changes in temperature, dress in layers, adjusting their clothing to the environment, protect their extremities with a hat, gloves and warm socks and wear non-slip footwear to prevent falls.
