The band Colar de Rapariga, formed by Brazilian musicians from the Northeast living in Lisbon, released their first EP this week, Girl’s Necklace Vol. 1by the independent label Concha. The work brings together four tracks that cross brega pop, arrocha, piseiro and rap, translating both northeastern popular music and the experience of immigration in Portugal.
The launch will be celebrated with two presentations: on November 29th, at Casa Capitão, in Lisbon, with the participation of the Artist Coach, performance by Jhon Douglas; and on December 6th, at Ferro Bar, in Porto.
The group emerged in 2023, when vocalist Heidy Samantha received an invitation to put together a brega band for the Musa de Marvila Carnival, at the Brega Agrega party. In the initial phase, still without drums, Heidy, guitarist Wehz and producer Vinicius Big John bet on serenade beats, defining the project’s hybrid identity.

With the departure of Big John, who returned to Brazil, saxophonist and clarinetist Gu Juventino joined the group, expanding the instrumental range and consolidating the sound that today characterizes Colar de Rapariga. The band’s name – used in the non-pejorative sense of “girl”, common in Portugal – suggests the idea of emotional involvement, like a necklace that fits around the wearer’s neck.
Produced by Big John, the EP features the tracks I sent audioan arrocha recorded at his home studio in Lisbon; Beige Pantiesa bregadeira with funk effects; Composing MPBfloorboard with elements of rap inspired by a composition by Elvis Boa Morte from Sergipe; and I turned off my cell phonea bonus that was already circulating in Heidy’s authorial project, created in partnership with Jordania Martins.
