“This Christmas, we reinforce what should guide our mission every day: people.” This is how candidate Gouveia e Melo’s Christmas message begins, published on social media this December 24th. In a video lasting just over 1 minute and 40 seconds, the candidate remembers “forgotten” people and the importance of caring for others.
“This season reminds us of the importance of solidarity, justice and the responsibility of taking care of each other, especially those who face the greatest difficulties and those who often feel forgotten. I deeply believe in a cohesive Portugal, which does not resign itself and leaves no one behind.”
Gouveia e Melo also remembered the victims of domestic violence, one of the most recorded crimes in Portugal. “In a country that knows how to decide, act and protect those who work, those who create value, those who care and those who build the future. In a Portugal that protects the most fragile, values young people, respects its elders and does not turn a blind eye to the violence that so many women still suffer at home. A country that states, without ambiguity, that human dignity cannot be negotiated and that violence is never acceptable.”
In the same message, he emphasizes that the country needs a “clear direction” and remembered the Portuguese around the world. “Portugal today needs a clear direction, seriousness and leadership. This Christmas, I leave you a message of closeness, unity and trust. To the Portuguese people spread across the world and to the families awaiting the return of their young people and their families, I leave you a word of hope.”
He ended with a wish for a Merry Christmas. “We want, among ourselves, to live, work and make Portugal grow. I wish everyone a Christmas of peace, solidarity and confidence in the future. Happy holidays. Merry Christmas.”
