In his Christmas message, André Ventura praised the “base of our values, of our culture as a country”. The almost two-minute video was shared on the presidential candidate’s social networks. “I would like to wish you all a holy and Merry Christmas. A holy and Merry Christmas to you, to your families, may it be a season of love, unity, family and happiness. At this time we also celebrate the basis of our values, of our culture as a country”, he began by saying.

According to Chega’s leader, Christmas is the “celebration of the boy who is born”, in reference to the baby Jesus. “We must not be ashamed of it, we must be proud of it, we must celebrate it with happiness. We celebrate the boy who is born, the boy who formed the basis of our entire culture and our entire civilization. We must not let anything or anyone put into question what we believe in and the basis of our civilization.”

The message was recorded in a nativity scene and highlighted the values of Europe. “For this reason, this boy must be in the nativity scene and must be the basis of what we believe, of the family, of the sacred, which continues to mark this country and this continent in which we live. Therefore, we want to continue living in a country and in a Europe that we are in. We want to continue living in a country and in a Europe of values, of the good values in which our families raised us”.

André Ventura also thanked the security agents. “I would also like to thank all those who ensure and allow us to have a safe and family Christmas. To everyone, from defense to security, health and transport. To all those who ensure that we can all have a safe Christmas. To them a due thank you.”

He also remembered everyone who follows him and mentioned that “a lot is wrong” in Portugal. [Agradeço] To everyone, to everyone who has been following me, to everyone who has fought alongside us, we would especially like to wish you a very, very, very happy season, with lots of love, lots of unity. And in a world and in a country where so much is wrong, where it often seems that values are upside down and everything has changed, may this Christmas be one of light.”

He ended the message by saying that Christmas is “light in the darkness”. “Because Christmas is light in the darkness. I wish you all a holy Christmas and your families, with lots of light, lots of love, lots of affection, with lots and lots of hope.”
