The price of flour and sugar has been falling since the beginning of the year, but the value of eggs is expected to make Christmas sweets more expensive, registering an increase of almost 32% since the beginning of the year.
According to data from Deco – Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection, sent to Lusa, on January 1st of this year, half a dozen eggs cost 1.61 euros but, on November 19th, the same box was already priced at 2.12 euros, thus registering an increase of 31.68%.
This value, however, has remained stable since October 22, when it reached a peak of 2.12 euros.
On the other hand, since the beginning of the year and also until the 19th of this month, the price of white sugar and cake flour has been falling.
In the case of white sugar, the value was 1.26 euros per kilogram (kg) at the beginning of this year and dropped to 1.17 euros on November 19, that is, there was a drop of 7.14%.
Even so, throughout this period the value underwent several fluctuations, having, for example, reached a maximum of 1.30 euros on May 21st. The lowest price was recorded on November 12th (1.15 euros).
In turn, the price of cake flour decreased by 14.75% in the period under analysis, going from 1.83 euros per kg to 1.56 euros.
