Card transactions carried out on the Web Summit fell 18% in 2025, compared to last year’s edition. On the other hand, transactions with foreign cards in Lisbon increased by 10.2%, overall, in the week of the event.
The Web Summit once again brought together thousands of entrepreneurs and curious people, between the 10th and 13th of November, in Lisbon. Some were Portuguese, but many came from foreign countries to be present.
Now SIBS was present as an exclusive partner for payments without physical cash. To this end, it distributed more than 250 terminals, across 80 points of sale and 55 merchants.
After all, there were 64,466 transactions carried out, 18% less than in last year’s edition (78,226 a year ago). The average value, however, increased by 6%, reaching 13.07 euros (12.30 euros in 2024).
Payments and withdrawals were made with cards from 115 different nationalities, with 72% arriving using foreign cards. The United Kingdom led, with 11.7% of foreign transactions, followed by Germany (8.1%), USA (6.4%), Spain (6.2%) and Brazil (6.1%).
Regarding the impact of the Web Summit on the Portuguese economy, it was possible to determine that transactions with foreign cards in the Lisbon district increased by 10.2% and the average value grew by 6.4%, compared to the previous week.
