A BRITISH boy was killed in Portugal after his mum’s ex-partner allegedly stabbed him before dying in a gas explosion, according to local media.
Authorities say the 13-year-old was stabbed to death in the town of Tomar on Tuesday.
The suspect later died after a blast reportedly caused by a gas leak believed to have been deliberately provoked by the alleged killer.
He is believed to have turned on the gas, triggering an explosion that killed him.
According to Portuguese outlet DNthe boy was allegedly attacked with a bladed weapon by the man, who then barricaded himself inside the house.
The child’s mother, also a British national, and a member of the GNR (National Republican Guard) were injured in the blast.

Both were taken to Tomar Hospital as the woman suffered minor physical injuries and is receiving psychological support.
A source from the Santarém Territorial Command told the Lusa news agency that the GNR was alerted around 12pm following reports of domestic violence and arrived to find what was described as a homicide followed by suicide.
SIC News reported that the mother had called 112 and sought help from neighbours after allegedly being assaulted and expelled from the house by her ex-partner, who remained inside with the child.
Emergency services had just arrived when the explosion occurred.
The boy was found in cardiorespiratory arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene, along with the suspect.
An autopsy will determine whether the child died from the stabbing or the explosion.
The Sun has contacted the UK Foreign Office for more information.
Luís Freire, president of the Parish Council of Casais/Alviobeira, told SIC Notícias that the case had already been flagged by authorities due to previous episodes of domestic violence.
Further reports from SIC say the domestic violence situation had been reported since 2023.
The couple had since separated, but neighbors said the man was a regular visitor.
The suspect, a 43-year-old Portuguese citizen, reportedly had a criminal record and had previously been imprisoned.
Local radio Hertz reported that the explosion occurred near the Casais Church and was caused by the gas being turned on.
A GNR officer was hit by shards of glass from a window and assessed as having “minor” injuries.
The Judicial Police are investigating the case and the road next to the house remains closed as forensic work continues.
In their first comments so far about the incident, a spokesman for the force said: “The Polícia Judiciaria, through the Criminal Investigation Department of Leiria, is conducting an investigating to clarify the circumstances of two deaths that occurred this morning in the parish of Casais in Tomar.
“These are the deaths by stabbing of a 13-year-old boy and that of the presumed perpetrator, his mother’s former partner, who herself was found by authorities with signs of having been bound and assaulted and has since been taken to the nearest hospital.
“Both the alleged assailant and the minor had multiple stab wounds. Despite vital signs still being detected, death was declared at the scene moments later.
They continued: “Inside the residence, there was a strong smell of gas, which moments later resulted in an explosion that injured one of the GNR officers.
“The alleged perpetrator had already served a prison sentence for homicide, and the family had been flagged following domestic violence cases registered in 2022 and 2023.”
How to get help
EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide
It doesn’t discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.
It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.
And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.
Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.
