Former socialist MEP Ana Gomes defended this Thursday, December 18, that the existence of a possible conflict of interest due to the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, having been a lawyer for the Solverde group was not clarified with the shelving of the investigations into Spinumviva.

“The European Public Prosecutor’s Office focused only on European funds and the Public Prosecutor’s Office [PGR] decided not to investigate this central issue [do conflito de interesses]”, maintained, to Lusa, Ana Gomes.

The career diplomat also regretted that, by opting for a preventive investigation instead of an investigation, the PGR had “restricted the means” that would allow the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DCIAP) to carry out an in-depth investigation into the suspicions regarding Luís Montenegro (PSD).

“It is a fact, according to a ruling by the Supreme Administrative Court […]that Luís Montenegro was Solverde’s lawyer against the State [na concessão dos casinos]”, he reiterated, insisting that the current games concession competition is not taking place in a transparent manner.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO, in its official acronym) archived, on November 27, the complaint filed in March by Ana Gomes against Spinumviva, the prime minister’s family company, a source from the community entity told Lusa on Wednesday.
