A town in the province of Alicante represents the fall of the largest methamphetamine distribution network in Europe. The National Police in collaboration with the DEA, the Drug Enforcement Administration of the United States, arrest nine people accused of being part of this network, four of them in three municipalities in the regions of l’Alacantí and Medio Vinalopó.
A marble factory in Monforte del Cid is one of the keys to this important international operation, according to the police report. This facilitated the distribution of narcotic substances since received from Mexico the drugs already hidden in the stones with which we usually work in the sector.
Sources of the investigation tell EL ESPAÑOL that in the deep search that was made of one of the industrial warehouses they found about three million euros hidden in a bunker that had been built undergroundin the pure style of North American series like Breaking Bad.
Along these lines, the marble factory is being investigated to see if it served as a legal cover for the fraudulent business of which they are now accused. In fact, work is being done on the hypothesis that the importation of stones from Mexico was the channel to introduce methamphetamines.
A long investigation that began in 2023 and that now involves a marble businessman, with connections to other municipalities of the province. That clue is what has led to the searches at homes in Novelda and San Juan beach.
The businessman who owned the marble company in Monforte del Cid had his residence on the aforementioned San Juan beach. His lawyer emphasizes to this medium that his client, in provisional prison since November and who has been denied freedom despite several requests, has no record related to this type of crimes.
Of the nine arrests in Spain, as research sources detail to this medium, two have occurred on San Juan beach (including a minor one), another in Monforte del Cid and the fourth in the same Alicante provincial police station after the group’s efforts. Thus, the province of Alicante is one of the bases of this alleged criminal organization.
This is the second phase of Operation Saga which was initially deployed in May 2024 to fight against the dangerous Mexican Sinaloa cartel. Now, apart from the searches in the province of Alicante, where most of them have been concentrated, they have intervened in two homes in Valencia, one in Malaga and another in Madrid.
The National Police highlights that in this phase the leader of the criminal network of drug transporters has also been located. He is accused of lead operations between Dubai and Mexico. This detainee is the one who was also in charge of communication with the remaining members of the organization, according to the Police.
