EDP reinforced its presence in Poland by signing a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) that will supply around 50 GWh per year to the Carrefour Polska supermarket chain, avoiding approximately 54 thousand tons of CO₂ annually.
The agreement marks EDP’s first operation in the Polish market that combines, in a single PPA, solar and wind production, a solution that the company advocates provides greater flexibility and better adaptation to customer needs.
The operation complements the collaboration started in 2024 — a project to install 13 photovoltaic plants on supermarket rooftops, with 650 kWp of total capacity distributed across five provinces — and is based on two renewable projects from EDP Renováveis that will power the stores involved.
EDP has already developed more than 1 GW in solar and wind projects in Poland and, currently, EDP Renováveis has more than 0.6 GW installed in the country, while EDP Energia Polska has contracted around 270 MWp in distributed solar projects.
By way of comparison, the EDP group exceeded 15 GW of capacity contracted in PPA worldwide in 2024, corresponding to around 41.5 TWh of renewable generation (2.2 GW in Europe).
For EDP, these corporate contracts are key instruments to respond to the growth in electrical demand and customers’ decarbonization goals, while at the same time encouraging the construction of new renewable capacity in the markets where the company operates.
