452 people were arrested in five days as part of road surveillance operations for Christmas and New Year by the PSP and GNR, of which 332 had excess alcohol in their blood, while 120 did not have a license to drive.
Between Thursday and Monday, more than 75,000 drivers or vehicles were inspected and authorities recorded 1,203 offenses for speeding, 1,010 vehicles without mandatory inspection and 357 without insurance, among other fines.
With regard to road accidents, PSP and GNR recorded 2,167 accidents, with 630 injuries and six fatalities.
In the PSP area, 922 accidents were recorded, resulting in 300 injuries (13 serious and 287 minor) and one fatality, while in the GNR there were 1,245 accidents, 330 injuries (23 serious and 307 minor) and five deaths.
According to provisional data from the GNR’s “Christmas and New Year 2025/2026” operation, which began on December 18, 40,318 drivers were inspected, with 382 cases of excess alcohol being detected, of which 201 were detained, for driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 grams per liter.
70 people were also arrested for driving without a legal license.
Of the 6,430 road traffic offenses detected by the GNR, the security force reports 915 cases for speeding, 181 for alcohol consumption, 158 for lack of or incorrect use of seat belts, 173 for use of a cell phone, 833 for lack of inspection and 273 for lack of mandatory insurance.
In the PSP’s “Operation Police Always Present Parties in Safety 2025-2026”, the authorities inspected “6,927 drivers and 29,258 vehicles by radar, with 2,060 violations of road legislation detected”, highlighting 288 cases of driving due to excessive speed, 177 due to lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 84 due to lack of insurance, 53 for driving with alcohol and 34 for improper use of a cell phone.
The PSP made 181 arrests for road crimes (131 for driving while intoxicated and 50 for lack of legal license to drive), and 21 suspects were also detained for crimes against property (theft and robbery) and 28 suspects for drug trafficking, in actions leading to the seizure of enough drugs for 44,456 individual doses.
Since the 18th, the PSP has seized “six firearms, 45 bladed weapons, 69 ammunition and 33 other weapons, either as a precautionary measure or following the 5 arrests made for possession of a prohibited weapon”, having also collected “6,676 pyrotechnic items”.
Within the scope of border control, the PSP detained 12 citizens for illegally staying in national territory, controlled 161,364 foreigners and prepared 10 reports and 15 reports for administrative offenses.
“446 interceptions were also carried out, three refusals of entry into national territory and three notifications of voluntary abandonment”, says the PSP.
