Iberdrola BP Pulse has reached more than 2,000 operational public charging points across the Iberian Peninsula, two years after the creation of the joint ventureestablishing itself as a leader in the ultrafast segment.

The expansion — which doubled the network in less than a year — aims to accelerate the electrification of transport and, according to the company, will have avoided more than 28,000 tons of CO₂ in 2025.

More than 70% of the network in the Iberian Peninsula offers power above 100 kW, and in Portugal, the company already offers more than 300 stations above this power, with some equipment reaching 600 kW for light vehicles, it said in a statement.

The ability to charge up to 300 km of autonomy in around 15 minutes is highlighted as a factor that reduces the barrier to the adoption of electric vehicles and enhances interurban and tourist flows.

Pablo Pirles, general director of Iberdrola BP Pulse, quoted in the document, says that “providing ultra-fast, simple and affordable charging is our way of accelerating the development of electric mobility in Spain and Portugal”.

From an economic point of view, the network concentrates investments in logistics corridors and border points that benefit the transport of goods, highlights the company, highlighting the introduction of Europe’s first public MCS charger, in Spain (capable of >1,000 kW), and the offer of more than 100 places compatible with heavy vehicles on strategic routes.

The objective, he says, is to reduce stopping times and enhance the transition from the road sector to the electric sector.

According to joint venturethe operation of the Seixal ultra-fast station, with a capacity of up to 600 kW for cars, and the 70-seater megahub in Granada highlight the focus on high-flow points.

These investments generate indirect effects on the value chain — from infrastructure suppliers to associated services in service areas — and position Portugal and Spain as competitive corridors for electric mobility in Europe, he says in the same note.
