António Valle was unanimously approved as the new general director of Lisbon Tourism, replacing Vítor Costa, who is retiring after years of leading the city’s promotion.
According to the president of Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, “António Valle’s arrival represents a new impetus and ensures continuity with renewal, at a time when the sector requires vision and capacity for institutional coordination”. This statement was highlighted by the municipality as a sign of confidence in the leadership transition.
With more than two decades of experience in the public and private sector, Valle has held positions such as chief of staff at Lisbon City Council, advisor at AICEP and government teams, in addition to working as a communications consultant for companies in various sectors. He has a degree in Information Sciences, with postgraduate degrees in Business Communication and a master’s degree in Political Science.
In a statement, António Valle states that he assumes the position with a “sense of mission”. For the new general director of Lisbon Tourism, the city “faces decisive challenges for the future of tourism and for the relationship with residents and visitors. I want to contribute to a strategic model that combines attractiveness, sustainability and quality of life”, he highlights.
From an economic point of view, the new management will have the mission of reconciling the increase in tourist revenue with measures that preserve the quality of life of residents and urban sustainability, reinforcing coordination between public and private entities to maintain Lisbon’s competitiveness in the international market.
