The arrest in the British capital occurred during the protest in support of Palestine Action prisoners, who are on hunger strike, and took place in front of the offices of Aspen Insurance which, according to the group Prisoners for Palestine, is the “insurer of the Israeli arms company Elbit Systems”.
According to a London police spokesperson, cited by Reuters, two people were arrested for throwing red paint at a building. It was only later that the Swedish activist was arrested.
“Shortly afterwards, a 22-year-old woman also arrived at the scene,” a police spokesperson said in a statement. Authorities say the young woman was detained “for displaying” a poster “in support of a banned organization (Palestinian Action), in violation of Article 13 of the 2000 Anti-Terrorism Law.”
Since November 2, Palestine Action prisoners have been on hunger strike, with three of them having already interrupted this protest due to their worsening health, according to Sky News.
Prisoners from the pro-Palestine group who are on hunger strike demand an end to the presence of arms factories in the United Kingdom that supply weapons to Israel, the repeal of the ban on the Palestine Action group, an end to the ill-treatment of prisoners in custody and the immediate application of release on bail, the British broadcaster said.
Also according to Sky News, several politicians visited these prisoners and some alerted the government to the possibility that they could die in the coming days.
