At issue is the game between Santa Clara and Sporting in the Portuguese Cup, which was marked by the controversy surrounding the penalty that allowed the ‘lions’ to tie the game after 90+16 minutes and which took around 12 minutes to be analyzed by the refereeing team led by João Pinheiro and VAR Rui Silva.
The decision led to protests from the Santa Clara bench, with Venâncio and Lucas Soares, who had already been replaced, being expelled.
Before that moment, however, player Paulo Vitor was sent off in the 88th minute.
The SAD shareholder reveals that Santa Clara asked to have access to the VAR audios at the time of the penalty in favor of Sporting to understand the reasons for the “delay of more than ten minutes in the review”, a situation that he says he has “never seen in world football”.
Bruno Vicintin also states that he had information that the placement of the offside lines did not work at the time of the penalty, alluding to a possible irregular positioning of a Sporting player, warning that this situation could lead to the match being cancelled.
“We hope this is not true because making a decision using a technology that was not presented could even be an error of law and lead, in my opinion, to the cancellation of the match if that is the case”newspaper.
The person responsible for SAD at Santa Clara says he trusts in the “suitability” of Portuguese football, but asks for “respect”, remembering that the Azoreans faced Sporting de Braga on Monday [derrota por 1-0] and Sporting on Thursday and host Arouca on Sunday.
“After yesterday’s controversy [quinta-feira]once again we had three athletes expelled, one of whom didn’t even participate in the game. We are the only team in Portugal forced to play three times in six days. Santa Clara is a serious project, which fulfills its obligations, which represents a people and a region that deserve respect”criticism.
