On International Migrants Day, celebrated on December 18th, Saudade Livraria will promote the meeting “Migration and bonds of belonging”with free entry to the public. The topic will be addressed by lawyer André Lima and writer Cristina Fontenele, both columnists for DN Brazil. The event starts at 7pm, at the bookstore headquarters.
The purpose of this conversation is to reflect on the rights of immigrants and about the challenges of building belonging today, in a world marked by inequalities, violations of fundamental rights and the spread of xenophobia. These situations are felt by the Brazilian community living in Portugal.
The topic is not new to any of the columnists. Lawyer André Lima solves these problems through the law, while the writer uses words. She is the author of the book A place for you: reflections on place, memory and belonging.

To the DN Brazil, the columnist emphasizes that talking about immigration is, above all, talking about human beings. “Talking about migration is talking about people, paths and rights. On the 18th, at Saudade Livraria, we will share reflections that help to understand o migrate beyond numbers and statistics, articulating human rights with the real stories of those who cross borders in search of dignity“, he highlights.
Cristina highlights to the newspaper that the feeling of belonging is part of people’s lives. “Belonging is one of the greatest human needs – we want to be part of a family, a group of friends, a culture. In this meeting, designed by Saudade Livraria, a space that values diversity and polyphony, let’s talk about how belonging is built and how the Law can contribute to the integration of migrants in another country“, he highlights. In the writer’s analysis, the process is also “a feeling bordered by the concrete, by respect for the person’s basic rights, allowing them to create bonds and build a new life”.
