A SEVEN-year-old British girl was among dozens injured in a horror train crash in Thailand.
The train was carrying hundreds of people when it was struck by a locomotive at the Wang Yen Railway Station in Kanchanaburi.
Tourists screamed as the impact rattled six coaches, shattering windows and hurling them out of their seats on Saturday evening.
Paramedics arrived at the railway, where they found more than 30 people injured, including four with serious wounds.
Passengers were rushed to the Phahol Pholpayuhasena Hospital for treatment.
Authorities said three Brits were among the wounded.
A seven-year-old girl was discharged after X-rays and CT scans found she had no serious wounds.
The two other Brits were identified as Sharlene Merle Van Tonder, who suffered a bruised right cheek, and Joseph Thomas Beesley, who sustained a minor wound on his left eyebrow.
Officials said the crash unfolded during a routine coupling maneuver that suddenly went wrong, when the locomotive’s brakes failed as it backed toward the parked passenger cars.
One traveller said: “The train had nearly a hundred Thai and foreign tourists.
“When we arrived at Wang Yen Station, we stopped to wait for the locomotive swap, which takes about 20 minutes.”
They added: “While we were sitting in the carriages, the car was suddenly hit with a very hard impact.
“Tourists in every carriage were thrown about, with some hitting their heads against the windows, causing them to break, and others falling to the floor.”
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) later dispatched a bus to take some 70 stranded tourists to Kanchanaburi station and the River Kwai Bridge just after 7pm local time.
A replacement locomotive was also sent to tow all six passenger carriages back to Kanchanaburi station.
In a statement, the SRT said: “The SRT has launched an urgent and thorough investigation to determine the cause.
“We apologised to affected passengers and reaffirmed that passenger safety remains our highest priority.”
