Zelensky claims to have had a ‘substantial’ call with US envoys to advance the peace plan

Also participating in this meeting were the Ukrainian delegates who traveled to Miami for the contacts that are taking place there on the US proposal to end the war in Ukraine.

“We just had a long and substantial call,” Zelensky reported in X and welcomed the discussion, which he described as “very focused and constructive.”

“We covered many aspects and reviewed the key points that could ensure an end to the bloodshed and eliminate the threat of a new large-scale Russian invasion, as well as the risk that Russia will not keep its promisesas has happened repeatedly in the past,” he explained.

Furthermore, Zelensky stressed that his government is determined to “continue working with good will with the American side to genuinely achieve peace” and noted that kyiv and Washington have agreed on next steps and the formats in which the next contacts will occur.

Zelensky noted that he is now waiting for his negotiators, Rustém Umérov and Andrí Hnatov, to return from the US to inform him in person about the talks, since “not everything can be discussed over the phone.”

This Saturday was the third meeting between representatives of kyiv and Washington in Miami in recent days.

In Friday’s conversation, the parties agreed on a “framework of security arrangements” and discussed the “deterrence capabilities necessary to maintain lasting peace,” according to Umerov, who did not reveal details of what this alleged “framework” includes.

“Both sides agreed that real progress towards any kind of agreement depends on Russia’s disposition to demonstrate a serious commitment to long-term peace, which includes steps towards de-escalation and an end to the deaths,” Umerov also wrote.

The Ukrainian authorities reported this Saturday of a massive Russian attack against various regions with 653 drones and 51 missiles of various types, with impacts in 29 points in the country, which has caused damage to energy and transportation infrastructure and left at least eight civilians injured.

Zelensky is scheduled to travel to London on Monday to meet with the leaders of the format known as E3, which make up United Kingdom, France and Germany.

There, as announced by French President Emmanuel Macron, the objective will be to examine the situation and the negotiations underway within the framework of American mediation.

The US presented last month a 28 point peace plan which included Russian demands such as the reduction of the Ukrainian Army, the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the entire Donbas or kyiv’s renunciation of joining NATO and the deployment of allied troops in its territory in the post-war period.

In Geneva, the US negotiated with European and Ukrainian representatives a new 20-point version without the elements that are considered red lines by kyiv and the EU, but this revised version has so far been rejected by Moscow as a basis for starting direct negotiations.
