IndiGo flight chaos has sent flyers experience turbulence even before boarding a plane. The crisis, now in its fourth day, has impacted operations across airports and even sent the airfares soaring.

As on Friday, Delhi Airport has cancelled all IndiGo flights from the national capital. Chennai and Hyderabad airports have also cancelled a number of 6e flights, leaving thousands of passengers in a frenzy.

The airline has said the disruption is linked to new Flight Duty Time rules, and more cancellations and delays are possible today. With the disruption affecting large numbers of scheduled services, it has also forced many travellers to change plans at short notice.

IndiGo crisis: Am I eligible for a refund?

Passengers are eligible for a full refund if IndiGo cancels a flight or does not operate it as scheduled, and they may also choose to rebook on the next available service at no extra cost. Under the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) rules, even non-refundable or promotional tickets must receive a refund of all taxes and statutory airport charges if the passenger does not travel. DGCA guidelines also state that airlines must return money to the original mode of payment, and refunds processed through travel agents must be completed without delay. In situations where delays or cancellations are caused by the airline, passengers are entitled to refund or rebooking, and airlines remain responsible for resolving refund issues within the stipulated time frame.

Below is a clear, step-by-step guide to claiming a refund or rebooking if your IndiGo flight was cancelled.

Step 1: Confirm your flight status

Open the IndiGo website or mobile app and go to “Manage Booking.” Enter your PNR or booking reference and your last name to check whether the flight shows as cancelled.

Step 2: Decide between refund or rebooking

IndiGo gives two main options: claim a full refund or rebook on the next available flight without extra charge. Choose the option that best fits your travel needs.Also Read:

Step 3: Submit a refund request online (if you choose refund)

Go to the IndiGo Refund page and select “Cancellation / Refund for Cancelled Flight.” Enter your PNR, email ID and passenger details, then submit the request.

If you paid online

Refunds for online payments are processed back to the same card or payment method used. They typically appear within 5–7 business days.

If you paid in cash

If you bought the ticket with cash, visit the airport ticket counter where you made the booking. Present your ticket and ID proof to claim the refund.

If you booked through a travel agent or third-party portal

Refunds for bookings made through agents or third-party portals are processed by those agencies. Contact your agent directly if you face delays or need help.

Step 4: Track your refund

Watch your email for confirmation from IndiGo. If you do not receive the refund within 7–10 business days, contact IndiGo customer support through the app, website or call centre.
