TAP is canceling flights on December 11, the day a general strike is scheduled in Portugal, and is contacting passengers with alternatives, according to a notice on the airline’s website.
“Due to the general strike in Portugal and in order to avoid constraints on its customers’ travel, TAP is canceling flights on December 11th”he indicated.
According to TAP, “customers are being contacted with an alternative if their flight is cancelled”, further indicating that, “If the passenger proactively wants to advance or postpone their flight from that day to the three days before or after, they can do so, free of charge.” on the TAP website and application or in travel agencies.
TAP agreed minimum services with several unions for that day.
The agreement released by the General Directorate of Employment and Labor Relations (DGERT) was with Sitava – Union of Aviation and Airport Workers, Sitema – Union of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians, SIMA – Union of Metallurgical and Related Industries and SNPVAC – National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel.
The carrier will have three return flights to the Azores and two to Madeira, and one return flight to the following countries: Belgium, Luxembourg, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau.
Three return flights to Brazil and two to the USA are also included.
The Civil Aviation Pilots’ Union (SPAC) guaranteed, for its part, that it “will comply with the minimum services that may be established” in the general strike and has scheduled an extraordinary general meeting for Friday, so that the associated pilots can decide whether to join the strike.
