The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Friday, November 28, that his administration will “permanently suspend” migration from all “Third World countries”following the attack that led to the death of a member of the National Guard near the White House. The news was advanced by Reuters agency.
The American president did not specify which countries fall into the “Third World” category, nor did he detail the meaning of “permanent suspension”. He guaranteed, however, that the measure will cover processes approved during Joe Biden’s government.
“I will permanently suspend migration from all Third World countries to allow the US system to fully recover, put an end to millions of Biden’s illegal admissions […] and remove anyone who is not a liquid asset to the United States”, he wrote on his social network Truth Social.
The President also stated that he intends to end all federal benefits and subsidies intended for “non-citizens”. Elsewhere, he said he will “denaturalize migrants who harm internal tranquility” and deport any alien deemed a public charge, security risk or “incompatible with Western civilization”.
The statements come after the death of Sarah Beckstrom, 20 years old, hit in an attack that left another soldier, Andrew Wolfe, 24 years old, “fighting for his life”, according to Trump. The suspected shooter, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan, entered the country in 2021 through a resettlement program created after the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Before the announcement of the immigration suspension, Trump had already stated that “hundreds of thousands” of people entered the country “totally unchecked and uncontrolled” during what described how the “horrendous” airlift of 2021.
Trump also reinforced his intention to reduce what he describes as “illegal and disruptive” populations, arguing that “only reverse migration (remigration) can fully resolve this situation”. Although Lakanwal was legally in the country, the attack gave new impetus to the President’s migration agenda, which has tightened both irregular and legal immigration.
The Government has already deployed more migration control teams to large cities, in a strategy that resulted in record numbers of arrests until mid-November.
