Former Prime Minister José Sócrates sent a letter to the Attorney General of the Republic, Amadeu Guerra, in which he stated that he wished to “file a complaint against certain individuals for the crime of debauchery of private life”, pointing out “the prosecutors linked to the Marquês Process as the main suspects.”
Socrates mentioned, in the letter, that the CNN Portugal had access, who “is absolutely convinced that the Public Ministry provides information” to the media. At issue is the “exact knowledge” of the trips he made and of which he did not inform the court.
“I just arrived at Lisbon airport and a television camera from ‘Correio da Manhã TV’ was waiting for me to ask me questions about my private life, showing exact knowledge of the trips I took in previous weeks and their destination”, says Sócrates in the letter.
The former head of the Government said that he was “always careful to comply with the legal obligations resulting from the identity and residence agreement”, so as to “not inform the court” where he was traveling.
“Still, despite all these precautions on my part, Correio da Manhã television knew exactly which trips I had taken and when. I have a strong suspicion that this station receives information from criminal authorities with the obvious objective of delving into the lives of citizens who are especially targeted by this institution, as is my case”, the document reads.
