The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, presented this Thursday, November 20th, the Strategic Plan for Sports, approved by the council of ministers held at the Jamor High Performance Center (CAR).

Structured into six Strategic Pillars and composed of 44 concrete measures, it has a time horizon of 12 years and defines integrated public policies that cover education, inclusion, talent and high performance, the modernization of infrastructures and the sustainability of financing.

The requalification of the sports complex’s infrastructure is one of 44 approved measures and will cost 19.3 million euros: The Swimming Pool Complex (3ME), IPDJ Facilities, ADOP, Sports Museum and Sports Medicine Center (2.5 ME) and the new facilities for the rugby teams (3.5 ME) are included in the plan, as well as the accommodation for high-performance athletes, which will undergo extensive renovation and cost six million euros.

“We are going to create a council of ministers dedicated to sport, the national sports development plan will be presented and one of the projects is the investment to be made here in Jamor of 19.3 million euros to accommodate the multiple features it offers. Since the 40s when the first infrastructure was built, many others have been added but no thought was given to the need for maintenance and requalification, and one of them is accommodation, which does not offer the dignified conditions that our athletes need. The objective is that the interventions can take place over the next two years”, said the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, who on the eve of the plan’s presentation visited the Jamor sports complex.
