ALPHA MU GAMMA CHAPTER

Three Rivers community College

Norwich, Connecticut

The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize scholastic achievement of community college students and to provide opportunities to members for promoting the four Phi Theta Kappa hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship.  With this in mind, Alpha Mu Gamma chapter has implemented an “Enhanced Membership Program” in addition to the Standard Active Membership.

Standard Active Membership is full membership to students having met the grade point average and credit hour requirements to be a member of Phi Theta Kappa.  They receive all the rights and privileges of membership, including participation in all Phi Theta Kappa activities.  However, it is recognized that not all members have the time to be participatory in local chapter activities.  Therefore, choosing this membership option indicates that the member will attend programs/activities/meetings and participate whenever possible (but that none of this is required for membership) and that the student will attend the induction ceremony (if possible).  Standard Membership does not include the benefits listed under Enhanced Membership.  A member can change their membership status from Standard to Enhanced at any time.

Enhanced membership is strictly volunteer.  Enhanced members are members who decide to commit to participation in chapter activities that promote the four Phi Theta Kappa hallmarks, attaining at least a Two Star (out of 5) membership status each calendar year:

One Star Level:    (must complete at least 4)

___ Attend a New Member Orientation event.

___ Participate in an Induction Ceremony.

___ Get Connected at www.ptk.org and update

       contact information.

___ Attend one chapter meeting.

___ Become familiar with the four Hallmarks of

       Phi Theta Kappa.

Two Star Level: (must complete at least 3)

___ Represent the chapter by volunteering at a

       college sponsored function.

___ Attend a second chapter meeting.

___ Attend a chapter Scholarship or Leadership

       activity.

___ Bring a Phi Theta Kappa eligible student to

       a chapter meeting.

The benefits of enhanced membership are: (1) Phi Theta Kappa stole and tassel worn at graduation ceremony will be paid for[1] and (2) eligibility to apply for chapter scholarships[2].  An Enhanced membership may be changed to a Standard membership status at any time.
