LEARNING RESOURCE CENTERS

COLLECTIONS

Circulating Collection

The circulation process at the Learning Resource Centers is automated.  In order to check out materials, faculty, staff, students and community patrons must register in the library system and obtain a barcoded library card.  This library card must be presented in order to check out materials.  Books may be checked out for four weeks and may be renewed in person or by phone. Barcoded library cards are also needed to access iConn (the Connecticut Digital Library) from home via the Internet.

Periodicals

Current periodicals are arranged alphabetically by titles on the periodical display shelves.  Back issues are stored under the same titles inside the display shelves and in the Microfilm Room at the Mohegan LRC or in the back room at the Thames LRC.  Many of the most commonly used titles are kept on microfilm located in the Microfilm Room at the Mohegan LRC.  Consult the periodical list (available at each campus) for titles and exact holdings.  Periodicals are for in-house use only.

Reference Collection

Reference books are sources used to locate a specific piece of information.  Reference books have “REF” above their call numbers are housed in the Reference area.  Reference books are for in-house use only.

Course Reserves

All materials that are required reading or viewing by Faculty for classes are put in the Reserve Collection behind the Information Desk.  These materials must be requested from the Information Desk attendant.  A borrower must have a Library Card in order to access the material.  Faculty members decide whether the material is to be used only in the LRC or circulated for a limited period of time.

Other print and Non-Print Collections

In addition to books and periodicals, the Learning Resource Centers maintain collections of pamphlets, cassettes, filmstrips, slides, videos, and computer diskettes.  A list of non-print materials is available at each LRC.  Some of these items are for in-house use only, while others may be checked out for seven days.
