Quick Start
for Study Skills
TASC
also provides
online
versions of its Academic Success Workshops
Here are some excellent sites which provide information about
the study
skills topics which students most regularly need assistance with.
Test Taking
Preparing
for and Taking Tests is a
thorough guide to test taking. Includes a section on essay and objective testing, as
well as a "Test Skills Self-Assessment". From the Univ. of Texas at Austin.
There's also a good section on preparing
for finals from U. of North Dakota.
Note-Taking
Some general guidelines for making
the most of your classroom note-taking from the University of North Dakota. The tried and
tested Cornell
System of note-taking is explained at this Union County College site.
Time Management
Time Management is probably the most
essential personal and academic skill to consider. This site, from the University of
Texas, Austin, gives suggestions for personal assessment of your daily, weekly, and
monthly schedule needs and provides calendars and check lists to organize your plans.
Stress Management
Stress Management
- To assess your stress level, take this short Stress Test
and
find out about Stress
and how to reduce it. You may also want to try a Relaxation
Exercise that can be used before you study, as a refreshing study break, or even just
to help you go to sleep.
Listening Skills
Listening Skills
- The average college student spends about 14 hours per week in class listening (or
perhaps we should say "hearing"--there
is a difference!) to lectures. See if you can improve your listening skills by following
some of the strategies posted by the University of Minnesota at Duluth. |
