History Department

"His face is turned towards the past.  Where we perceive a chain of events, he sees one single catastrophe which keeps piling wreckage upon wreckage and hurls it in front of his feet.  The angel would like to stay, awaken the dead, and make whole what has been smashed.  But a storm is blowing from Paradise; it has got caught in his wings with such violence that the angel can no longer close them.  This storm irresistibly propels him into the future to which his back is turned, while the pile of debris before him grows skyward.  This storm is what we call progress."

Illuminations, Walter Benjamin

Welcome to the home page of the History Department at Three Rivers Community College.  By using the following links you will be able to get information on instructors, courses offered, and assignments.  We offer a wide variety of courses at the college, meeting the students needs on many levels.  As you can see from the picture to the left, the traditional classroom is still very much a part of our curriculum.  Yet you are viewing this on one of the newest tools for learning.  At Three Rivers, we believe in using all the resources available to help students achieve their goals.

At Three Rivers, history is studied not only for what it can tell us about the past, but what light it can shed on the present, and possibly the future. History is also part of the social science department, and as such it is an important foundation for a full understanding of the various social disciplines, and an illuminator of particular societies and mankind in general.
