Desktop Publishing I GRA 140
(formerly ENG 129) 3 credit hours
Prerequisite: Knowledge of a word processing program
The purpose of this computer graphics course is to teach the student to
produce print and web publications on the computer using the Adobe Creative
Suite (InDesign cs, Photoshop cs, Illustrator cs, and Acrobat Pro) as
well as scanning software. Students will study page design, typography,
and image editing as well as writing for the web.
Advertising Design GRA 155 (formerly
ENG K130) 3 credit hours
Prerequisite: Experience using a word processing program
This computer graphics course focuses on using two graphics programs,
Multi-Ad Creator 2 and Adobe Photoshop cs to design advertisements. The
course includes preparation of advertisements for print and the web. Students
will use text, graphics, illustrations, borders, blends, and screens,
among other design elements. The course also addresses principles of advertising
design. Multi-Ad Creator is used by 98% of the newspapers in the United
States.
Digital Imaging - Adobe Photoshop
GRA 230 (formerly ENG 229)
3 credit hours
Prerequisite: GRA 140
Adobe Photoshop cs, including ImageReady cs, is the focus of this course
which will provide the student with a foundation in image manipulation
and graphic design with an emphasis on the Web. Layer effects; image adjustment;
blending modes; nested palettes of selection, painting, and correction
tools will be addressed. Students will also practice the design principles
of repetition, proximity, alignment, and contrast. Storyboarding and slicing
in Photoshop and ImageReady will be included.
Web Design I GRA 260 (formerly
) 3 credit hours
Prerequisites: ENG 101 and GRA 140 or permission of the instructor
An introduction to the concepts of professional web site design using
design principles, web authoring tools, and image editing tools - Macromedia
Dreamweaver MX and Adobe Photoshop cs with Image Ready cs. Students will
apply four design principles (Alignment, Contrast, Repetition, Proximity)
to create a web site using the authoring tools described above as well
as the skills acquired in ENG 101 and GRA 140
Public Speaking (COM 173)
3 credits
Prerequisite: none Corequisite: eligibility for ENG100
Students will learn the fundamentals of speech communication. They will
learn to deliver, discuss, and respond to presentations of increasing
complexity. Emphasis will be placed on organization, analysis, and elements
of speech delivery, including effective verbal and non-verbal aspects
of communication.
Publications Practice I COM
291 (formerly ENG K250)
3 credit hours
Prerequisite: COM 121 or GRA 140 or GRA 155or permission of the instructor
This course is designed to train students to produce The Current, the
student magazine. This involves researching, interviewing, writing, editing,
photography, and proofreading. It also includes all the pre-press work
(including digital imaging), which is done on computers, primarily using
the Adobe InDesign cs, and Photoshop cs. Advertising (sales and design)
is also part of this course.
Publications Practice II COM 292 3 credit hours
Prerequisite: COM 291
This is a continuation of Publications Practice I. Students will write
the more advanced stories for the magazine, as well as edit the newer
students' work. English 292 students will assume more responsibility for
page layout and digital imaging, primarily using the Adobe products in
this second course. |
