The Three Rivers Community College Dental Hygiene Transfer Compact is designed to provide special opportunities for individuals who are seeking an Associate in Science or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene.  Three Rivers does not offer an Associate in Science Degree in Dental Hygiene.  However, students wanting to earn this degree may complete pre-requisite and general education courses at Three Rivers Community College that will transfer to the University of New Haven's Dental Hygiene Program.

Three Rivers’ students who complete a Certificate or Associate in Science Degree in General Studies, and have followed the UNH Dental Hygiene Advising Track, are eligible for a smooth transfer into the University of New Haven's Dental Hygiene Program.  The advising tools for the Certificate and Associate Degree curriculum are displayed below.  Upon completing the Associate in Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of New Haven, graduates will be eligible to take both the Dental Hygiene National Board Examination and the Northeast Regional Board Examination  to apply for the Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) License.  Licensure allows for the employment as a Dental Hygienist in the dental office setting.  The program in Dental Hygiene at the University of New Haven is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.

Students enrolled in the Dental Hygiene Transfer Compact  are eligible for guaranteed admission and a smooth transfer into the University of New Haven's Dental Hygiene Program.  Students will earn either a Certificate or Associate Degree in General Studies from Three Rivers Community College.  Additionally, students can save time and money by attending Three Rivers before transferring to the University of New Haven.

STEP 1:  Apply to Three Rivers Community College

GENERAL COLLEGE ADMISSION

Three Rivers Community College maintains an open admission policy and accepts all high school graduates, holders of General Educational Diplomas (GED), and mature adults who demonstrate the ability to benefit from a college education. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis prior to the start of fall, spring and summer sessions. Students who wish to fulfill the admission criteria enroll in the General Studies curriculum Dental Hygiene Advising Track by following these steps:

a. Complete and submit an Application for Admission and attach the application fee of $20.00 (not required for readmitted students or individuals who have previously applied and attended any other Connecticut Community College). Students should select the General Studies Degree or Certificate Program with the Dental Hygiene Advising Track.  Complete your application online by using the following link:

             http://www.trcc.commnet.edu/Admissions/Updates/Howtoapply.htm#Admitweb

b. Provide documentation of high school completion with the Application for Admission.

c. Take the Computerized Placement Test.

NOTE: Applicants who have successfully earned 12 or more college credits including math and English courses should attach an unofficial transcript to the application form in order to obtain an exemption from the Computerized Placement Test.

d. All students admitted to the College who were born after Dec. 31, 1956 must provide proof of immunization for measles and Rubella before they are permitted to register for any courses.

e. All students enrolled at the College must contact their assigned advisor. Students not yet admitted to Three Rivers should contact the Coordinator of the Dental Hygiene Transfer Program in the Admissions Office at (860) 892-5722 for more information.

f. Register for any required developmental courses as indicated by the placement test and/or the required courses as stated in the catalog.

g. Register for prerequisite or co-requisite courses. It is suggested that applicants take as many co-requisite courses as possible before transferring to the Dental Hygiene program at the University of New Haven. In this way students can focus on Dental Hygiene and advanced science courses which are time intensive and academically rigorous.

STEP 2:  Complete the following courses using the outlined Certificate or Associate Degree curriculum at Three Rivers Community College

The following advising tool is provided as information only to prospective students interested in the Dental Hygiene Transfer Compact. Course selection should be completed with the assistance of an academic advisor at Three Rivers.  The tool outlines a General Studies Degree Program that has been carefully tailored to meet the requirements of the Dental Hygiene Transfer Compact.  The open electives have been pre-determined so that the guesswork of choosing appropriate elective courses has been eliminated.  Hence, the General Studies Degree earned by the student will serve as a foundation to transfer to the University of New Haven.  It should be noted that the following curriculum does not constitute a degree program in Dental Hygiene.
