Three Rivers College Foundation Scholarships

Three Rivers College Foundation (TRCF) scholarship program awards both merit and need-based scholarships. Students may earn a scholarship based on financial status, academic excellence, service to the College and community, or a combination of these factors.

Scholarships for High School Students

  • Ann M. Ahamed Scholarship                                                                              Provides full tuition and fees and is presented to a graduating high school student recommended by a guidance counselor or teacher and has demonstrated financial need. The awardee’s field of study can be any.  Award recipient may reapply the following year but must maintain a 2.5-3.0 GPA. 
  • Capano Family Scholarship                                                                                     Provides full tuition and fees to a deserving student with demonstrated financial need with a positive attitude and a drive to achieve. This candidate must be a current employee of ShopRite of Norwich, New London, or Clinton, or is a child of or a grandchild of a current employee of these ShopRite stores. 
  • Engineering Technology Scholarships -Dominion Nuclear Connecticut/Millstone Power Station Scholarship

    Provides 16 full scholarships for the two year Nuclear Engineering Technology ETAC of ABET-accredited Associate Degree program. Benefits include all tuition and fees, book support, a monthly stipend during the academic year, and a paid 12-week summer internship at their Millstone Nuclear Complex in Waterford, CT (if the student fully meets security clearance badging requirements). Factors for selection include: high school grade point average (especially in math and physics & chemistry courses), class standing, any completed college classwork, SAT scores, a written essay, and a personal interview.

    Deadline for application is February 15, 2014 with full scholarship support to start with the Fall 2014 Academic Semester.

  • Liberty Bank Community Service Scholarship(s) 

    One (1) scholarship for a graduate of Montville High School, Norwich Free Academy or      Norwich Technical School.

  • One (1) scholarship for a graduate of Bacon Academy, East Lyme High School, St. Bernard High School, Stonington High School or Waterford High School.

  • One (1) scholarship for a graduate of Fitch High School, Grasso Technical High School, New London High School or the Science & Technology High School.

  • One (1) scholarship for a graduate of any of the schools listed above, plus Lyman Memorial High School, Lyme/OldLyme High School, or RHAM High School

  • Applicant must show active involvement in the community and have demonstrated financial need.  Each scholarship will consist of $2,000 paid in equal installments over the two years the student is at TRCC.  To qualify for the second year payment, a student must have taken a full course load and earned a minimum GPA of 2.5 during the first year of college.              

  • Norwich Public Utilities                                                                                   Provides one student full tuition. Student selected will either be entering from high school or is a continuing full-time Three Rivers student. (3.0 high school GPA) This is a two year scholarship based on merit and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a Norwich resident who has made contributions to the community of Norwich either through volunteer work or through extracurricular activities at his/her high school.
  • Reverend David L. Cannon Liberal Arts & Science Scholarship                               Provides full tuition and fees (excluding books). This is a two (2) year scholarship based on merit and demonstrated need. Applicants must place in the top 40% of their class and maintain a 3.25 GPA and be enrolled full-time at Three Rivers in one of the many liberal arts and science degree programs.
  • ShopRite/Gloria Cohen Memorial Scholarship ($500)                                                  This candidate must be a current employee of ShopRite of Norwich, New London, or Clinton, or is a child of or a grandchild of a current employee of these ShopRite stores.  Applicant must have demonstrated financial need with a positive attitude and drive to achieve. 
  • Three Rivers College Foundation Engineering/Technology Scholarship                           Provides full tuition and fees (excluding books). This is a two (2) year scholarship based on merit and demonstrated need. Applicants must place in the top 40 % of their class, maintain a 3.25 GPA and be enrolled full-time at Three Rivers in one of the engineering and technology degree programs.
  • LIGHT Scholarship
    Open to applicants (high school or non-traditional student) enrolling in the Laser and Fiber Optic Technology (LFOT) associate degree program in the Fall 2011 semester. Offered through the New England Board of Higher Education PHOTON Education Fund. See their website for details.

Scholarships for NEW or CONTINUING STUDENTS

  • AFE Chapter 122                                                                                             Provides full tuition and fees and will be awarded to a student enrolled in an engineering discipline who has maintained a 3.0 GPA with demonstrated financial need.
  • Alumni Association - Children of Alumni Scholarship                                                Awarded to a current student at Three Rivers and whose parent(s), grandparent(s), or legal guardian graduated from Mohegan Community College, Thames Valley State Technical College or Three Rivers Community College.
  • Alumni Association - First Year Scholarship                                                        Applicant must be a first year student currently enrolled at Three Rivers who will have completed a minimum of 6 -30 course credits.  Applicant must show characteristics of maturity and clearly indicate that education experience is necessary for advancement.                                                    
  • The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) Award ($1,000) Awarded to a student currently enrolled at TRCC who has taken at least student two of the following classes: World Civ I, World Civ II, World Regional Geography, War & Society in World Civilizations, 20th Century Europe, Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, Architecture of the World, World Religions, or Art History I.   • Bill Stanley's - The Forgotten Founders Scholarship #1 ($500)                              Awarded to a current TRCC student ethnic minority who has successfully taken US History I (HIS 201) or Connecticut History (HIS 211). A 2.7 GPA is required.
  • Bill Stanley's - The Forgotten Founders Scholarship #2 ($500)                              Awarded to a current TRCC student who has successfully taken any US history course.  A 3.0 GPA or higher is required.
  • Capano Family Scholarship                                                                                     Provides full tuition and fees to a deserving student with demonstrated financial need with a positive attitude and a drive to achieve. Candidate must be a current employee of ShopRite of Norwich, New London, or Clinton, or is a child of or a grandchild of a current employee of these ShopRite stores. 
  • Collins & Jewell Scholarship                                                                                    Provides full tuition and fees to a deserving student enrolled in the Manufacturing Engineering Technology program. Students completing their second semester as a full-time student are encouraged to apply.
  • Dr. Wayne Silver Scholarship ($1,200)                                                               Applicant must have entered Three Rivers at least 10 years after high school or GED completion and has completed 15-30 Three Rivers credits.
  • Dr. William DeHomer Waller Scholarship ($1,200)                                              

    Applicant must be registered full or part-time student from a diverse, multi-cultural background and have completed at least 15-30 credits at Three Rivers.

  • Eugene and Florence 74' Frank Scholarship ($500)                                                  Applicant must be a female non-traditional student (35 years or older) who has completed one year at TRCC and has a 3.0 GPA.

  • The LaMattina Foundation Scholarship                                                              Provides full tuition and fees and will be presented to a full time returning student, 25 years or older enrolled in a Liberal Arts & Science or Business Program at TRCC with a 2.7 GPA.
  • John and Mary LaMattina Scholarship Fund                                                        Provides full tuition and fees and will be presented to a TRCC Humanities student who has financial need and has the likelihood to persist despite personal challenges; demonstrated exceptional support for peers and/or College and overall performance in work of the course. 
  • Matthew P. Hightower Memorial Award ($1,000)                                                         Presented to the student with a GPA of 3.7 or greater, with at least 20 credits taken at TRCC, whose focus is in the area of public accounting with a desire to become a certified public accountant. Preference will be given to a nontraditional student.
  • Norwich Public Utilities                                                                                  Provides full tuition and fees for an entering or continuing full-time TRCC student who is a Norwich resident and has made contributions to the community of Norwich, either through volunteer work or extracurricular activities at his or her high school. This award is renewable each semester for up to 2 years provided the student maintains a 2.7 GPA.  The student must be an Engineering or Business major with an interest in economic development or energy efficiency. 
  • Pascal Family Accounting Scholarship ($1,000)                                                   Awarded to a student with a major in accounting attending Three Rivers who is an evening student with at least a 3.2 GPA.    
  • Ralph & Lillian Pelliccio Memorial Scholarship ($500)                                                   Awarded to a member of the current graduating class who has demonstrated excellence in either accounting or business adminsitration and will be transferring to a four year college on a full-time basis in business or accounting field.
  • ShopRite/Gloria Cohen Memorial Scholarship ($500)                                                  This candidate must be a current employee of ShopRite of Norwich, New London, or Clinton, or is a child of or a grandchild of a current employee of these ShopRite stores.  Applicant must have demonstrated financial need with a positive attitude and drive to achieve. 
  • TRCF Freshman Scholarship ($1,200)                                                                   Applicant must have completed no less than 18 course credits at Three Rivers, be enrolled full time in the following semester and have a GPA of at least 3.0.    
  • TRCF Sophomore Scholarship ($500)                                                                 Applicant must have completed no less than 32 course credits at Three Rivers, be enrolled full time in the following semester and have a GPA of at least 3.0.

Nursing Scholarships

  • Charles W. Kitchings Memorial Scholarship                                                           Provides full tuition and fees to a nursing student who has shown leadership and has completed Nursing 102 and maintains a 3.0 GPA.
  • Joan Grove and Carolyn Krohn Memorial Scholarship #1 ($500)                                Awarded to a non-traditional nursing student, one who has successfully completed the 102 course. Student must maintain a 2.7 GPA.    
  • Joan Grove and Carolyn Krohn Memorial Scholarship #2 ($500)                                      Awarded to a non-traditional nursing student, one who has successfully completed the 201 course.  Student must maintain a 2.7 GPA. 
  • Pascal Family Nursing Scholarship ($500)                                                           Awarded to a current nursing student who possesses an LPN and is bridging his/her education to obtain an RN. Student must have a 3.0 GPA.
  • Robert N. Rue Scholarship (Value of award varies each year between $500-$1,000)             Awarded to a nursing student who demonstrates the ability to make appropriate clinical judgments in providing quality, holistic patient care. The recipient will evidence a life-long desire to become a nurse with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Veronica W. Cronin Nursing Scholarship                                                             Provides full tuition and fees to a nursing student who has shown leadership and has completed Nursing 101 and maintains a 3.0 GPA.
  • VNA Nightingale Scholarship ($1,200)                                                               Awarded to a TRCC (full or part-time) nursing student who resides in Eastern Connecticut and demonstrates academic achievement and financial need.
