Putting Everything in Order for Success

Welcome to Three Rivers Community College New Student Orientation! The information and events contained in this orientation are intended to connect you with the people, services, and resources available at Three Rivers that can help you put everything in order and succeed in your college journey. We want to help you make a smooth transition by showing you the many programs and services offered by the college and by communicating the expectations that we have of all our students.  So join us and enjoy the tour!

We offer orientation online as well as hold a campus social for new students at Three Rivers.  At this point, you should have already been admitted to the college, taken the placement test, and registered for classes. This orientation can also help current students who still have questions about the college.

Why Go Through an Orientation?

To learn about Three Rivers and the services it provides for you to help you be successful in your college journey.

To help you become acquainted with the college way of life so that you can more quickly adjust.

To make you aware of your rights and responsibilities as a student.

Part 1 - Online Orientation - Spring Orientation

This interactive orientation program lets you make the connections to the information, services, and resources available at Three Rivers from the comfort of your home.  The program covers many things you should know before classes begin, but first, there are three very important things that you should keep in mind throughout your time at Three Rivers:

Know your Student ID number, and, better yet, keep your ID card with you at all times. You will be using your ID number throughout your time at Three Rivers, from the beginning right up until the end. You will need your ID to access on-campus computers, register for classes, obtain grades, and receive services. In fact, you already had to present it when taking the placement test and you will need it again in order to start this online orientation.

Keep your contact information updated. The college needs to be able to reach you, whether it be an emergency, class cancellation, or even just a notice of upcoming events. It's important that you let the school know not only when you move or change your name, but especially, in today's world of ever-changing email addresses and cell phone numbers, when these pieces of contact information change as well. Unfortunately, the only information that you can currently update online is your email address; all other changes must be reported to the Registrar's office in person or by mail (download a copy of the form here).

Our new campus is finally being built. The construction of the college at the Thames Valley site and the new Norwich Technical school at the Mohegan site has started and may be chaotic at times. Be aware of possible changes in classrooms, entrances, parking, etc.  Leave yourself ample time to get to classes and, above all, be careful around the construction areas. You can find the latest construction updates by following the link, "Campus Consolidation," on the Three Rivers home page.

Part 2 - In-Person Orientation

What? The second component of your orientation to Three Rivers is an "in-person" orientation.  Come connect with faculty, staff, student leaders as well as other new students.    Faculty and staff members will facilitate an activity connected with this year's academic theme, “From Chaos, Order”.   While there, meet representatives of several departments, such as Student Services, Student Activities, Tutoring and Academic Success Centers (TASC), The Writing Center, and the Learning Resource Centers (library) to find out more about their services. Library staff will even sign you up right there to get your library card (or, if you can't make it, you can sign up for a library card online). Also, representatives of the many student organizations and clubs will be there to tell you more about themselves and welcome you to join them.

So plan to attend so you can connect with the people and services at Three Rivers that can help you succeed both personally and academically. Find out what we expect of you and what you should expect from us.
