
2012-2013 Scholarships
Application deadline is April 16, 2013 (unless otherwise noted)
Three Rivers Community College (TRCC) and Three Rivers College Foundation (TRCF) scholarship program awards both merit and need-based scholarships. Students may earn a scholarship based on financial status, academic excellence, merit, service to the College and community, or a combination of these factors.

Scholarships for High School Students
- Ann M. Ahamed Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship Provides full tuition and fees and is presented to a graduating high school student who has demonstrated financial need and is recommended by a guidance counselor or teacher. The awardee's field of study can be any, but the student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and enroll full time at TRCC. Students receiving this award may reapply the following year.
- Reverend David L. Cannon Liberal Arts & Science Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship Provides full tuition and fees (excluding books). This is a two (2) year scholarship based on merit and demonstrated need. Applicants must place in the top 40% of their class and maintain a 3.25 GPA and be enrolled full-time at Three Rivers in one of the many liberal arts and science degree programs.
- Engineering/Technology Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship Provides full tuition and fees (excluding books). This is a two (2) year scholarship based on merit and demonstrated need. Applicants must place in the top 40 % of their class, maintain a 3.25 GPA and be enrolled full-time at Three Rivers in one of the engineering and technology degree programs.
- Engineering Technology Scholarships - Foundation Scholarship Dominion Nuclear Connecticut/Millstone Power Station Scholarship Provides up to sixteen two-year full tuition and fees scholarship awards. High School grade point average (especially in science and math courses) class rank, SAT scores, written essay and personal interview will be factors when considering the candidate(s).
- Norwich Public Utilities - Foundation Scholarship
Provides one student full tuition. Student selected will either be entering from high school or is a continuing full-time Three Rivers student. (3.0 high school GPA) This is a two year scholarship based on merit and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a Norwich resident who has made contributions to the community of Norwich either through volunteer work or through extracurricular activities at his/her high school.
- LIGHT Scholarship
Open to applicants (high school or non-traditional student) enrolling in the Laser and Fiber Optic Technology (LFOT) associate degree program in the Fall 2013 semester. Offered through the New England Board of Higher Education PHOTON Education Fund. For an application go to www.lasertechonline.org. Applications due April 2.
Scholarships for New and Currently Enrolled Students
- Adventures in Life Long Learning
Awarded to a student who is 30 years or older, has earned 30 or more credits at TRCC, and has a 3.0 or higher GPA. Student does not receive state or federal tuition assistance. - AFE Chapter 122 - Foundation Scholarship Scholarship provides full tuition and will be awarded to a student enrolled in an engineering discipline who has maintained a 3.0 GPA with demonstrated financial need.
- AHEPA History Award ($1,000) - Foundation Scholarship Awarded to a student with a minimum 3.3 GPA and two of the following classes: World Civ I, World Civ II, World Regional Geography, War & Society in World Civilizations, 20th Century Europe, Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, Architecture of the World, World Religions, or Art History I.
- Bill Stanley's - The Forgotten Founders Scholarship #1 ($1,500) Foundation Scholarship Awarded to a current TRCC student ethnic minority who has successfully taken US History I (HIS 201) or Connecticut History (HIS 211). - Bill Stanley's - The Forgotten Founders Scholarship #2 ($1,500) Foundation ScholarshipAwarded to a current TRCC student who has successfully taken any US history course: A 3.0 GPA or higher is required. - Capano Family Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship This scholarship provides full tution and fees to a deserving student with demonstrated financial need with a positive attitude and a drive to achieve. This candidate must be a current or past employee of Shop Rite of Norwich, New London, or Clinton, or, a child of or a grandchild of a current or past employee of these Shop Rite stores.
- Chief Daniel T. Keogh Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a TRCC student enrolled in the Fire Technology and Administration Program, active in the Fire Service, and GPA of 3.0 or higher. The award is donated by the Riders of Fire CT1 Motorcycle Club. The TRCC Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.
- Children of Three Rivers Alumni Scholarship
Awarded to an applicant whose parents, grandparents or legal guardian is an alumnus of the college. Applicant is selected by the Board of Directors of the Three Rivers Alumni Association. - Christopher Miranda Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student who is pursuing a Business Administration (Career or Transfer) curriculum. Recipient selected by Miranda family. - Collins & Jewell Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship This scholarship provides full tuition and fees to a deserving student enrolled in the Manufacturing Engineering Technology program. Students completing their second semester as a full-time student are encouraged to apply.
- Dr. Howell Aarons Tutoring Scholarship
Awarded to a student T.A.S.C. tutor who holds a 3.0 GPA or higher and has been a T.A.S.C. tutor for one year (current semester counts toward eligibility). Sponsored by the TRCC Alumni Association. - Dr. Wayne Silver Scholarship ($1,200) Foundation Scholarship Applicant must have entered Three Rivers at least 10 years after high school or GED completion and has completed 15-30 Three Rivers credits.
- Dr. William DeHomer Waller Scholarship ($1,200) Foundation Scholarship Applicant must be from an ethnic minority and have completed 15-30 Three Rivers credits.
- Eugene and Florence 74' Frank Scholarship ($500) Foundation Scholarship Applicant must be a female non-traditional student (35 years or older) who has completed one year at TRCC and has a 3.0 GPA.
- Father Larry Ouimet Memorial Fire Technology Scholarship
Awarded to a student currently enrolled in the Fire Technology and Administration Program, active in the New London County Fire Service and holds a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must submit verification of ACTIVE Status from the Chief of Fire Company. Two award categories: Non-traditional Student (must have entered college at least three years after high school or GED completion) and Traditional Student (must have continued education immediately after high school). - Freshman Scholarship ($1,200) Foundation Scholarship Applicant must have completed between 15-30 Three Rivers credits.
- Groton Rotary Club
Applicant must live or work in the Groton area and be continuing their college education. The Groton Foundation of the Groton Rotary Club will choose the winner. - John and Mary LaMattina Endowed Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship Provides full tuition and fees and will be presented to a TRCC Humanities student. Criteria for consideration: Likelihood to persist despite personal challenges; demonstrated exceptional support for peers and/or College; financial need; and overall performance in work of the course. A faculty recommendation letter and written statement by applicant is required.
- The LaMattina Foundation Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship Presented to a returning student who is at least 25 years old, enrolled full-time in a TRCC Liberal Arts & Sciences or Business program. A GPA of 2.7 must be maintained. This scholarship provides full tuition and fees.
- Liberty Bank Community Service Scholarship(s) $500 Foundation Scholarship Awarded to ten (10) deserving students based on evidence of need and active involvement in the community.
- Matthew P. Hightower Memorial Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship Presented to the student with a GPA of 3.7 or greater, with at least 20 credits taken at TRCC, whose focus is in the area of public accounting with a desire to become a certified public accountant. Preference will be given to a nontraditional student.
- New London Fire Chief's Award
Awarded to a student currently enrolled in the Fire Technology and Administration Program, active in the New London County Fire Service and holds a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must submit verification of ACTIVE status from the Chief of Fire Company and returned to school at least three years after high school graduation. - Pascal Family Accounting Scholarship ($1,000) Foundation Scholarship Awarded to a current nursing program student who possesses a LPN and is bridging his/her education to obtain a RN. Student must have a 3.0 GPA.
- Ralph & Lillian Pelliccio Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a member of the current graduating class who has demonstrated excellence in either accounting or business administration and will be transferring to a four year college on a full-time basis in the business or accounting field. - Roberta M. Helming Challenges Scholarship
Awarded to a student who has completed 24 or more credits at Three Rivers, holds a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and has a documented disability which was provided to a Disability Counselor/Advisor prior to applying for the scholarship. - Rose City BNI Scholarship
Student must be a full-time TRCC student who has shown academic excellence and determination by obtaining a minimum GPA of 3.0. Student must also demosntrate community or campus service. - Rose Rubin Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student age 55 years or older seeking to further his/her education either through taking the Assessment of Prior Learning Program (APL) or through taking classes at TRCC. - Southeastern CT Women's Network Scholarship
Awarded to a female student who has completed a minimum of 30 credits at Three Rivers, has a 3.0 GPA or higher and is continuing her course work at TRCC. - Sophomore Scholarship ($500) Foundation Scholarship Applicant must have completed 31-45 credits at Three Rivers.
- Student Government Honor Scholarship
Awarded to a student with a 3.8 GPA or higher and has completed 20 or more credits at Three Rivers. - Student Government Outstanding School Involvement Scholarship
Awarded to a student with a GPA of 2.3 or higher, completed 20 or more credits at Three Rivers and is an active member in a Three Rivers’ student organization during the current academic year. - Three Rivers Academic Scholarship
Awarded to a student who has completed 15 or more Three Rivers credits and has a 3.0 GPA or higher. - Three Rivers Alumni First Year Scholarship
Applicant must be a first year student who started Three Rivers in the 2013 spring, or summer or fall 2012 semester. Must show characteristics of maturity and clearly indicate that education is necessary for advancement. Applicant does not receive state or federal tuition assistance.

Charles W. Kitchings Memorial Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship Provides full tuition and fees to a nursing student who has shown leadership and has completed Nursing 102 and maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Joan Grove and Carolyn Krohn Memorial Scholarship #1 ($500) Foundation Scholarship Awarded to a non-traditional nursing student, one who has successfully completed the 102 course. Student must maintain a 2.7 GPA.

Joan Grove and Carolyn Krohn Memorial Scholarship #2 ($500) Foundation Scholarship Awarded to a non-traditional nursing student, one who has successfully completed the 201 course. Student must maintain a 2.7 GPA.
- Marie Peloquin Memorial Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship Awarded to a student who is currently or has been a tutor at Three Rivers and is pursuing the Nursing Program at TRCC.

Pascal Family Nursing Scholarship ($500) Foundation Scholarship Awarded to a current nursing program student who possesses a LPN and is bridging his/her education to obtain a RN. Student must have a 3.0 GPA.
- Robert N. Rue Scholarship (value of award varies each year) Foundation ScholarshipAwarded to a nursing student who demonstrates the ability to make appropriate clinical judgements in providing quality, holistic patient care. The recipient will evidence a life-long desire to become a nurse with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Veronica W. Cronin Nursing Scholarship - Foundation Scholarship Provides full tuition and fees to a nursing student who has shown leadership and has completed Nursing 101 and maintains a 3.0 GPA.
- VNA Nightingale Scholarship ($1,200) Foundation Scholarship Awarded to a student enrolled in the nursing program, resides in SECT, demonstrates academic achievement and has financial need.
Math Awards and Prizes
- Excellence in Mathematics Scholarship
Awarded to a student who has been at Three Rivers for four semesters and has nine transferable math credits with an average of 3.75, an overall cumulative average of 3.5 and will continue his/her education. - Math Prize - ($150) 1st Place Foundation Scholarship Given to the first place winner of the annual math contest.
- Math Prize - ($100) 2nd Place - Foundation Scholarship Given to the second place winner of the annual math contest.
- Math Prize - ($75) 3rd Place - Foundation Scholarship Given to the third place winner of the annual math contest.
