Apply for Aid STEP 3

STEP 3 – File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

To be considered for any type of financial aid (grants, loans, or scholarships from the federal government, state, or college), you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Three Rivers Code is Federal School Code is 009765.  Priority deadlines for filing the FAFSA apply:

  • May 1 for students enrolling in September (fall semester)
  • November 1 for students enrolling in January (spring semester)

The Financial Aid Office recommends that you file the FAFSA well before these deadlines.

We also recommend that you file electronically using FAFSA on The Web (  It has proven to be the fastest, most efficient, and most accurate application method. Results are sent to you and Three Rivers about a week after filing if your application is electronically signed with a PIN.

We suggest that you print and complete a "FAFSA on The Web Worksheet" before filing FAFSA on The Web. The "FAFSA on The Web Worksheet" can be downloaded from the Forms section of this web site.

The Financial Aid Office schedules financial aid workshops throughout the year to help students with this process.  Click on Financial Aid Workshops to see the schedule.

In addition, the U.S. Department of Education provides a helpful guide for completing the FAFSA.  This is available in a web based and PDF format, in both English and Spanish on the Federal Student Aid web site.

Instead of using FAFSA on The Web, applicants may file using a paper FAFSA form.  It can be obtained by calling Federal Financial Aid Hotline (800) 433-3243.  Results are usually delivered in four to six weeks.

Please note that you must apply once every school year (usually after you file your yearly income tax forms). You must also be accepted into a degree program by Admissions and be in good academic standing.
