The Three Rivers College Foundation, in collaboration with Dime Bank, was delighted to welcome Connecticut author David Handler to the college on November 17. Handler, an Old Lyme resident, began his career as a journalist. He has authored eight novels about Stewart Hoag, a celebrity ghostwriter, and his basset hound, Lulu. The novels include the Edgar and American Mystery Award-winning The Man Who Would Be F. Scott Fitzgerald. His upcoming book, Click to Play, will be released in December. About the Lecture Series The Booker T. DeVaughn Lecture Series is an ongoing lecture series established by President Emeritus Booker T. DeVaughn. The series was established to provide an open platform for the exchange of ideas in the community. All lectures are free and open to the college community and the public. In February 2007, the series received a generous boost from a local institution when Jim Cronin, president, treasurer and CEO of Dime Bank, presented the lecture committee with a $25,000 check. USI Insurance of Waterford, Conn. also began supporting the series in 2008. Lectures, which usually run bi-annually, are free and open to the college community and the public. The generous support of local institutions will afford the lecture committee increased access to an exciting pool of prominent speakers. Past lecturers include Anne Garrels, NPR news correspondent and author of Naked in Baghdad; Dr. Bernie Siegel, cancer-patient advocate; Wally Lamb, best-selling author of She's Come Undone and I Know This Much Is True; David Brodeur, Washington Post correspondent; David Sutherland, director of PBS's "Country Boys," and forensics expert Dr. Henry Lee.
