Career Description + Lifestyle

Certified Nurse Aides play a vital role in health care delivery by providing routine patient care. Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), they respond to patient's needs, and check blood pressure, temperature, pulse and breathing. CNAs also assist patients while helping them change position, walk, bathe and eat. They generally have a great deal of patient contact and are important members of the health care team who help to develop patient relationships that foster trust.

  • Nursing Homes
  • Clinics
  • Home Health Agencies
  • Mental Health Institutions
  • Physician's Offices
  • Private Homes

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSE

This program trains students to be certified on the Connecticut Nurse Aide Registry. Students that complete the program sit for the state competency examination and upon successful completion of both class and exam are added to the Nurse Aide Registry. Program Description

This 120-hour Certified Nurse Aide training program is designed to prepare individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge in the first steps to a career in the medical field. Upons successful completion of the coruse, the graduate names will be palced on the State Certified Nurse Aide Registry. This program also qualifies you to be a Home Health Aide.

Course topics include:

  • Giving basic nursing and personal care to patients.
  • Commuicating with patients and providing physical and emotional support to them .
  • Making patient observations and reporting them and participating in care planning.
  • Helping patients maintain or regain everyday tasks including:
      • Eating
      • Bathing
      • Dressing
      • Tolieting

Prerequisites:

Prior to submitting your registration you must successfully complete our Math and English Comprehension test. A waiver for the testing will be considered for those who provide proof of prior college level courses. Please contact us at 885-2608 to schedule an appointment.

You Must provide proof of :

  • High school completion,

  • TB (PPD) test results read within the last 12 months

    Registrations will be denied without prerequisites. Register in Person at Three Rivers Community College in the Continuing Education Department. Telephone registration will not be accepted.
