The plan to relocate the combined Three Rivers Community College in downtown Norwich is visionary!
A glimpse of the proposal as published in the Bulletin indicates much thought went into designing a modern state-of-the-art school that compliments the 19th century environment of Norwich.
Preston is a rural area, and many of its residents choose to live there because it is quiet and country. Adding more automobiles and traffic would not help the problems that already exist on its heavily trafficked country roads. The college is a commuter school and, as one, does not need much open space. Norwich, on the other hand, is a city with much to offer commuter students. It is not removed from the general population.
The proposed site of the college overlooking the harbor and within steps of a public park is sure to add a pleasurable dimension for both students and faculty. Community colleges belong where the people are.
Change is hard for some people, but if we allow change to happen we may discover that we have become part of the dynamic positive side effects that it can bring.
